Frequently Asked Questions
Are lavender sarees good for weddings?
Yes, especially for guests at day weddings and family functions, where the pale shade reads softly in daylight photographs. For a more traditional function a woven jamdani looks more formal than a print, and a silver or deep purple blouse carries lavender into the evening.
Can I wear a plain lavender saree to the office?
Yes. Plain lavender in mul cotton, such as Lilac Blush, or handloom linen, such as Calm, reads as calm and professional and is easier to wear than brighter pastels. Pair it with an ivory, grey or deep purple blouse.
Which fabric suits a lavender saree best?
Pure chiffon for a fluid, light drape at parties and day weddings, mul cotton for everyday softness, and handloom linen or jamdani for structure and a more formal look.
Can I wear a lavender saree to a haldi or mehendi?
Yes, as a guest. In many families pastels such as lavender are worn at haldi and mehendi functions; a floral pure chiffon with a yellow or green blouse keeps it festive.
How do I care for a lavender saree?
Dry clean pure chiffon, jamdani, linen and anything with zari. Plain mul cotton can be hand washed gently in cold water and dried in the shade, away from direct sun so the pastel does not fade.
Do lavender sarees come with a blouse piece?
Our pure chiffons come with a 1 m crepe blouse piece and handloom linen with a 1 m blouse piece. Mul cotton sarees come without one, and for Lilac Bloom please check the product page.
Lavender and Lilac Sarees
Lavender is a pale, cool purple, soft enough for daylight and calm enough for the office. Our lavender and lilac sarees come in floral prints and hand painting on chiffon, a handwoven Dhakai jamdani, handloom mul cotton and handloom linen. Every saree is 5.5 m long and 45 inches wide. Below you will find the lavender sarees we have now, how lavender differs from lilac, and what to pair with it.
Lavender Chiffon Sarees
Solenne (₹3,399) and Amaris (₹4,499) are lavender floral prints on pure chiffon (100% Bemberg). Both are light and fluid, come with a 1 m crepe blouse piece and should be dry cleaned. They suit day weddings, farewells, birthday lunches and evening parties, and they photograph softly in daylight. European Viola is a violet floral chiffon painted by hand, for a softer, one of a kind look; see our handpainted sarees. See all our floral chiffon sarees for more prints.
Lavender Dhakai Jamdani
Lilac Bloom is a lavender floral Original Dhakai jamdani at ₹4,999. The motifs are woven into the fabric by hand, so it carries a quiet richness that suits pujas, family functions and formal days. Dry clean it. Read what a Dhakai jamdani saree is to see how the motifs are woven.
Lavender and Lilac in Cotton and Linen
Lilac Blush is a plain lavender handloom mul cotton at ₹1,699 that takes a gentle cold hand wash, for days when you want the colour without a print. Calm is a lavender handloom linen with a fine zari border at ₹4,499, with a 1 m blouse piece; dry clean it. Periwinkle is a lilac floral embroidered mul cotton for a little texture without weight. For more soft solid shades, see our plain sarees and purple cotton sarees.
Lavender or Lilac: What Is the Difference?
Both sit at the pastel end of purple. Lavender leans slightly cooler and greyer, while lilac is a light purple with a hint of pink, between lavender and mauve. In practice the names overlap, and many sellers use them for the same shade, so go by the photo. For deeper violets and royal purple, see our purple sarees.
How to Style a Lavender Saree
Blouse: a matching lavender blouse keeps the look soft and tonal. For contrast, ivory, silver grey and deep purple stay gentle, while deep green or navy make a bolder pairing. Gold suits lavender with zari. Our guide to which blouse goes with a purple saree has more pairings for the pastel shades.
Jewellery: pearls, silver and oxidised silver suit lavender's cool tone; rose gold works for evenings. Keep gold for sarees with zari.
Where to wear it: lavender chiffon suits farewells and parties, and plain lavender suits the office. For more soft shades, see our pastel sarees and read our pastel saree guide.
