Buying Sarees From India: Shipping to USA, UK, Canada, UAE and Australia
By Nishita Nathani18 min read
Yes, you can buy sarees online from India and have them delivered abroad: MAYIN ships to 34 countries outside India, including the USA, the UK, Canada, the UAE and Australia. Shipping is a flat charge per order (₹2,500 to most countries, ₹4,000 to Australia and New Zealand), customs duty is paid upfront by us so there is nothing more to pay at the door, and past orders have usually arrived in about two weeks. Below are the full country list, real delivery times, how payment and our no returns rule work, sizes in yards and inches, and how to handle the blouse, climate and care where you live.
Who Orders From Abroad
There are three common ways to order a saree from abroad, and each has a slightly different plan.
Countries We Ship To and What It Costs
Here is the full list. The shipping charge is per order, not per saree, and it is shown at checkout before you pay. There is no free shipping on international orders; free shipping applies only within India, on orders of ₹1,999 and above.
We do not ship to Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Bangladesh or Pakistan at the moment. If your country is not in the table, we cannot deliver there for now. If you are visiting India, ordering to an Indian address before your trip is the simplest way to buy from us.
Why one order of several sarees costs less per saree
Because the charge is per order, two or three sarees in one order share it. If you are buying for a family wedding or for Diwali and a few gifts, put them in one cart.
How Long Delivery Takes
Orders usually leave us within a few working days, and you receive tracking details when the parcel ships. From there it flies out, clears customs in your country and goes out for local delivery, which is where most of the time goes. Here is what that has looked like on real orders, counted from the day of the order, not the day of dispatch.
So we cannot promise a delivery date, and we would rather you planned with room to spare. For an event, order at least three to four weeks ahead, and about six weeks ahead if you still need a blouse stitched (more on that below). Keep the tracking link handy, and make sure the phone number on the order is one the local carrier can reach.
Customs Duty: Paid Upfront
Customs duty and import taxes on international orders are paid upfront by MAYIN. Our shipments go delivered duty paid, so there is nothing more to pay when the parcel reaches your door.
Delivered duty paid (often shortened to DDP) means the seller clears the parcel through customs in your country and pays the duty and import taxes there. The other common way, delivered at place (DAP), sends the parcel with duty unpaid: customs releases it only after the person receiving it pays, and refusing to pay can mean the parcel goes back. That is why an overseas parcel can arrive with a surprise bill, and why we pay ours upfront.
This matters more than it used to. Rules on small parcels have tightened in some countries: the United States, for example, suspended its duty free allowance for low value parcels in August 2025, so at the time of writing almost every saree parcel to the US is dutiable. With delivered duty paid, that is handled before the parcel reaches you. If anyone asks you for a payment at delivery on a MAYIN order, contact us before paying.
Paying From Abroad
Prices are shown in Indian rupees, and prices for orders outside India differ from our prices in India: you see them when you browse or check out from your country. International orders are prepaid, with no cash on delivery outside India. At checkout you pay the saree prices plus one shipping charge, and that is all you pay us, with duty already paid upfront by us. Your card or bank converts the rupee total into your currency at its own rate.
If you are in India paying for a gift that goes abroad, the delivery address decides: saree prices follow the delivery country, so go by the price shown at checkout, and the order is prepaid with the international shipping charge added. If a payment does not go through, try another card or write to us and we will help.
No Returns Abroad, So Choose Well
International orders cannot be returned. We would rather say that plainly before you order than after, because it is a real difference from ordering within India. It does mean choosing with a little more care, and these steps take most of the guesswork out of it.
If this is your first order, a plain mul cotton or mul modal saree is a gentle way to get to know our fabrics and colours before you buy for a big occasion. For what goes under a light saree, see what to wear under a saree.
Saree Length and Width in Yards and Inches
Every MAYIN saree is 5.5 m long and 45 inches wide. In yards that is about six, which is why a saree like ours is often called a six yard saree. It is the usual length for the everyday drape, with five to seven pleats at the front and the pallu over the left shoulder; saree draping styles shows the other ways to wear it.
Any blouse piece is extra to the 5.5 m. Where a saree has one it is 1 m, so the full length of cloth is 6.5 m, and a few product pages list that total rather than the saree alone. Either way the saree itself is 5.5 m. Some sarees come without a blouse piece, so check the product page. Our sarees also come without a fall (a strip of cloth stitched inside the hem) or pico (a finished edge), which a tailor can add if you want them.
A running blouse piece usually comes attached at one end of the saree, to be cut off for your tailor.
Getting the Blouse Stitched Where You Live
We send the saree; the blouse is made where you are. We do not sell stitched blouses, and we cannot stitch one before the saree ships, so plan the blouse as part of the order. There are three good routes.
A 1 m blouse piece covers most short and elbow sleeve designs; full sleeves often need more unless you are a smaller size, so show your tailor the piece first. For a mul cotton saree, which has no blouse piece, buy cotton or crepe locally; the blouse fabric guide explains what suits each saree. If you measure yourself for a readymade blouse, keep one finger under the tape for the armhole and two for the bust and arm rounds. Our readymade blouse guide covers sizes and fit, and saree blouse neck designs gives your tailor something to work from.
Fabrics for the Climate Where You Live
Choose for the weather on the day, not the month in India. Seasons run the other way in Australia and New Zealand, and indoors can be far cooler or warmer than outdoors.
In the cold, the warmth comes from layers, not the saree: a fitted jacket, a long cardigan or a shawl over the pallu, and a coat for the walk in. Our winter saree looks show how to layer, and the best saree fabric guide compares our fabrics side by side.
Caring for Your Saree Abroad
Many homes abroad wash in a machine and dry in a tumble dryer. Neither suits a saree. Heat and tumbling are what shrink cotton, and a machine is too rough for fine mul.
A dry cleaner used to delicate or hand finished pieces is worth finding before you need one. For the full routine, fabric by fabric, read how to wash and store sarees.

Questions People Ask
Do you ship sarees to the USA, UK, Canada and Australia?
Yes. We ship to 34 countries outside India, including the USA, UK, Canada, UAE and Australia. The full list is in the table above.
How much is shipping a saree to Australia?
₹4,000 per order to Australia and New Zealand, and ₹2,500 per order to every other country we ship to. It is shown at checkout, and several sarees in one order share it.
Will I pay customs duty on a saree from India?
Not on a MAYIN order. Duty and import taxes are paid upfront by us (delivered duty paid), so there is nothing more to pay at delivery.
What does DDP mean?
Delivered duty paid: the seller pays the customs duty and import taxes before delivery, so the person receiving the parcel pays nothing at the door.
How long does a saree take from India to the US?
Our two recorded US orders took 16 and 19 days from order to door, in line with about two weeks for international orders overall. Allow up to three weeks, longer in rare cases.
Can I pay cash on delivery abroad?
No. International orders are prepaid; cash on delivery is available only within India.
Can I return a saree bought from abroad?
International orders cannot be returned. Read the fabric, blouse and care details, and message us before ordering if anything is unclear.
How many yards is a saree?
Our sarees are 5.5 m long, about 6 yards, and 45 inches wide. Any blouse piece is extra.
Does the saree come with a blouse piece?
It depends on the fabric: mul cotton has none, mul modal comes with a 1 m running blouse piece, our chiffons with a 1 m crepe blouse piece and our linens with a 1 m blouse piece. Check the product page.
Can I put a cotton saree in the dryer?
No. Heat and tumbling shrink cotton. Hand wash mul cotton gently in cold water (unless the product page says dry clean) and dry it in the shade.
Are prices shown in my currency?
They are in Indian rupees, at the prices for your country, which differ from our prices in India. Your card or bank converts the total, and may add a foreign transaction fee.
Which saree fabric is best for Dubai summer?
Mul cotton, mul modal and handloom linen in light colours. Keep pure chiffon for air conditioned evenings.
