Frequently Asked Questions
What is a chiffon saree?
A chiffon saree is made from a light, semi sheer fabric woven from fine, tightly twisted yarn, so it falls in soft folds. It is comfortable for long hours and dressy enough for parties and weddings.
What is pure chiffon, and how is it different from other chiffon?
Pure chiffon is woven from natural or regenerated fibre rather than polyester, so it feels finer, breathes better and falls cleanly instead of clinging. Every MAYIN pure chiffon saree is 100% Bemberg™.
Which chiffon saree is best for party wear?
A printed pure chiffon is the simplest start: light, easy to manage and good in photographs. For more detail, choose a hand embroidered Vintage chiffon, and for the dressiest evenings, gold sequin roses or mukaish work on pure chiffon.
Which colour chiffon saree is best for a party?
Black, wine, teal and deep pink for evenings. Pastels such as lavender, peach and baby pink for day parties.
Can I wear a chiffon saree to a wedding?
Yes. Pastel florals suit day ceremonies and the mehendi; deeper grounds and embroidered chiffon suit the sangeet and reception, where gold sequin work such as Ruby, Emerald or Sapphire adds shine.
Is a chiffon saree good for a farewell?
Yes. It is light, easy to manage through a long evening and photographs well. A pastel or bright floral print on pure chiffon with a solid blouse suits most farewells.
Are chiffon sarees suitable for festive occasions?
Yes. Bright florals and the hand embroidered Vintage range suit pujas and festive lunches, and gold sequin or mukaish work suits Diwali evenings.
Do you have leheriya chiffon sarees?
Yes. Rouge Waves is a pink and purple leheriya print on pure chiffon, with a 1 m crepe blouse piece, and Blush Waves is a pink leheriya print on pure chiffon.
Is a chiffon saree costly?
Pure chiffon costs more than synthetic chiffon because of the finer fibre and softer finish. Our printed chiffon sarees start from ₹3,399; hand embroidered, sequin and mukaish sarees cost more, and each product page shows its current price.
Is a chiffon saree see-through? What petticoat should I wear?
Chiffon is semi sheer, so always wear a petticoat under it. Match it to the saree where you can; if you have no match on a light saree, nude usually shows less than white.
How do I wash and iron a chiffon saree?
Dry clean it, printed chiffon included, to protect the colour and any embroidery or hand painting. Press it dry on the lowest heat through a cloth and skip steam, which can spot the fabric.
Is chiffon good for daily wear?
Yes. Chiffon is light and drapes easily, which makes it comfortable for long days, though it needs a little more care than cotton.
Does a MAYIN chiffon saree come with a blouse piece?
Yes, a 1 m crepe blouse piece. A 1 m blouse piece covers most short and elbow sleeve designs; full sleeves often need more unless you are a smaller size, so show your tailor the piece first.
How long is a chiffon saree?
Every MAYIN chiffon saree is 5.5 m long and 45 inches wide. The 1 m crepe blouse piece comes in addition to that length.
Chiffon or mul cotton: which is better?
Mul cotton is cooler and easier to wash, so it is better for daily wear and hot days. Chiffon has a more fluid, dressy fall, so it is better for parties, weddings and evenings.
Chiffon Sarees for Women: Pure Chiffon Prints, Hand Embroidery and Evening Shimmer
1. The Pure Difference
A chiffon saree is light, semi sheer and fluid. It has a fine, slightly grainy texture, falls in soft folds and stays comfortable through a long day or evening, which makes it an easy choice in any season. Our pure chiffon sarees are woven from 100% Bemberg™. Every saree is 5.5 m long and 45 inches wide, comes with a 1 m crepe blouse piece, and prices start from ₹3,399.
What you will find in this collection:
- Printed pure chiffon: floral chiffon sarees, gingham checks and leheriya, in colours from yellow and peach to royal blue and black.
- Hand embroidered chiffon: the Vintage range, with hand embroidery worked over a floral print, such as Vintage Orange and Vintage Wine.
- Hand painted chiffon: florals painted by hand, in soft pink, beige and white.
- Sequin and mukaish: mukaish work, sequin florals and hand embroidered gold sequin roses on pure chiffon, and sequins on chiffon, for receptions and festive evenings.
2. The Floral Edit
Most of this collection is floral. From delicate small flower prints to bold botanical motifs, our floral chiffon sarees capture the essence of a summer garden, part of our wider floral sarees collection across every fabric we stock. Lightweight and easy to drape, they work for brunches, office wear, and daytime events. Our white and pastel florals, such as the hand painted English Primrose in white, Camilie in peach and Solenne in lavender, suit a more minimal look.
Our Vintage sarees and Florise carry hand embroidery over a floral print, and our gold sequin roses on pure chiffon are hand embroidered too. For every kind of embroidery we work on chiffon, from thread to sequin and mukaish, see our embroidered chiffon sarees, and for embroidery across every fabric we stock, including mul cotton, the wider embroidered sarees collection.
3. Chiffon by Colour
Chiffon takes colour beautifully, and the sheerness gives every shade a softer depth. Browse blue, pink, green, black and yellow chiffon drapes, or see the full range across every shade we stock.
4. Chiffon for Occasions
A deep red or black chiffon saree works for cocktail parties and receptions, while bright yellow suits haldi functions where comfort matters as much as colour. For party wear more broadly, chiffon drapes well and stays comfortable through a long evening. For weddings, a floral or hand embroidered chiffon is a comfortable choice for the sangeet, mehendi and daytime ceremonies, and our wedding sarees edit brings these together. For evening events, see our cocktail sarees.
5. Beyond Florals: Checks, Leheriya and Handpainted
Our gingham chiffon sarees, such as Fresh Bloom in peach, Sun Shower in yellow and Slow Sunday in blue, bring a clean graphic check to the same fluid fall. Leheriya prints carry the traditional wave pattern in a lighter contemporary weight, often across several shades at once, and our multicolour sarees edit gathers those alongside our striped and checked multi colour weaves. Rouge Waves (pink and purple) and Blush Waves (pink) are leheriya prints on pure chiffon, and our leheriya saree guide explains the craft behind the pattern. Our handpainted chiffon sarees, such as Frangipani in beige and Damask Rose in pink, are finished by hand, so no two drapes are identical.
6. Chiffon Saree Party Wear: Day Parties to Evenings
Chiffon is a natural choice for party wear because it stays light through a long evening and moves well in photographs. For day parties, farewells and birthday lunches, soft florals such as Juliet in pink, Liora in yellow and Amaris in lavender are easy first sarees, and Selene is a brighter blue for a daytime celebration. For cocktails, receptions and dinners, deeper grounds such as Azura in royal blue, Noxana in black, Veyona in blue and Vintage Wine in maroon read as evening wear. For the dressiest evenings, choose sequin or mukaish work, covered in the next section. See our party wear sarees, farewell sarees and cocktail sarees for the wider edit.
7. Evening Chiffon: Sequin, Gold Sequin and Mukaish
For receptions, cocktail nights and festive evenings, our evening chiffon sarees add shimmer and keep the light fall of chiffon. Tonal sequin florals, drawn in fine lines of sequins in the same colour as the saree, come on 100% Bemberg pure chiffon in City of Stars (royal blue), Starlet (wine), Final Act (brown) and Leading Lady (dusty pink) at ₹6,999, and on chiffon in Socialite, Rendezvous, Muse and Enigma at ₹3,999. Hand embroidered gold sequin roses on pure chiffon come in Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, Midas and Lovelace at ₹9,999. For a softer shine, mukaish work, fine metallic wire twisted into tiny points, comes on 100% Bemberg pure chiffon in Encore, Curtain Call, Diva and Showtime at ₹4,999. See all our sequin sarees and embroidered chiffon sarees.
8. What Comes With a MAYIN Chiffon Saree
Our chiffon sarees are priced from ₹3,399, and every one comes with a 1 m crepe blouse piece. Our chiffon saree blouse designs guide has necklines and backs that suit a light drape, and for blouse colours, read our blouse ideas for every saree colour.
Chiffon is semi sheer, so always wear a petticoat under it; our petticoat guide explains how to choose the colour.
Care: dry clean every chiffon saree, printed ones included; our saree washing and care guide covers pressing and storage. Shipping is free across India on orders of ₹2,000 and above.
9. Pure Chiffon vs Synthetic Chiffon
Most chiffon sarees sold online are synthetic. Pure chiffon feels different the moment you hold it. Our pure chiffon is woven from 100% Bemberg™, a fibre made only by Asahi Kasei in Japan from cotton linter. Here is how to tell the two apart.
- Feel: pure chiffon has a fine, slightly grainy texture. Synthetic chiffon feels slippery and smooth.
- Breathability: pure chiffon lets air through. Synthetic traps heat on a warm day.
- Static: synthetic clings and crackles. Pure chiffon falls cleanly away from the body.
- Drape: pure chiffon settles into soft folds and holds its pleats once pinned.
- Care: both need dry cleaning to keep the print and finish at their best.

10. Choosing a Chiffon Saree by Occasion
A chiffon saree can go almost anywhere. The colour and print decide where.
- Day weddings, engagements and brunches: pastel florals such as Amaris, Juliet, Camilie and Rosy Skies.
- Haldi and mehendi: yellow for the haldi, such as Liora, Sunlit Rose, Sun Shower and Vintage Yellow, and green for the mehendi, such as Zyra and Orelia. See our haldi saree guide.
- Diwali and festive evenings: bright grounds such as Elara in orange or the hand embroidered Vintage Orange, and for more shimmer, Emerald or Ruby with gold sequin roses. See our Diwali sarees.
- Karwa Chauth: red and pink, such as Amélie in red and Elysia in pink, or Vintage Wine in maroon. See our Karwa Chauth sarees.
- Receptions and cocktails: deeper grounds such as Noxana in black and Veyona in blue, or gold sequin roses on Sapphire.
- Farewells: soft florals such as Solenne in lavender, Selene in blue and Azura in royal blue. See our farewell sarees.
Fold five to seven pleats, slip one pin through the pleats only, from the inside, and tuck them in at the navel, facing left; for a party, try the butterfly or Mumtaz drape. More ideas in our party wear saree styling guide, floral saree guide and 12 saree draping styles.
